La Definizione

QR stands for Quick Response. It is a 2-dimensional matrix barcode invented in 1994 by Denso Wave (Masahiro Hara) in Japan. Unlike standard barcodes (1D) that hold ~20 digits, a QR code can hold up to 7,089 numeric characters.

Anatomia di un Codice QR

1

The three large squares in the corners. They tell the scanner "This is a QR code" and "This is up".

2

Smaller squares that help scanners decode even if the surface is curved.

3

The white border around the edge.

30%
Error Correction

A QR code can still be scanned even if 30% of it is damaged or covered!

Why are they popular now?

Native Camera Support

Before 2017, you needed a special app. Now, every iPhone and Android camera scans them automatically. This lowered the barrier to entry to zero, making them the global standard for Offline-to-Online interaction.
